Carl Howarth - Instructor
As a child, Carl learned Jiu Jitsu at a school in Burnley but did not make the transition from junior to senior student. While still living in Padiham, as a young adult, he tried to rekindle his interest in martial arts after hearing about a style called Wing Chun from a friend. He found a Wing Chun club in Colne and began learning the style only for the club to close after just a few months. After moving to Darwen in 2012, he decided to give martial arts another go. In 2015, he finally found a martial arts home at The White Cloud Martial Arts Academy.
Carl’s main reason for joining White Cloud was to learn Wing Chun and that remains his preferred style which he enjoys learning, sparring in and teaching. However, as White Cloud is much more than a Wing Chun school and Carl has also learned and become proficient in Tai Chi, Long Boxing and all the weapons that are expected of a White Cloud instructor.
Through years of training and hard work Carl has attained the level of instructor in spite of a disability, something which he feels is "a testament to both the inclusive and accessible nature of White Cloud and the supportive environment of the club".
