Straight Sword
The Straight Sword (Ji'en) is a light weight double edged weapon, it's effectiveness comes from the speed and accuracy of the practitioner and so, unlike the Sabre, requires many hours of practice to master even the basics. As such the straight sword is taught only to the higher ranked students who are ready to learn it.
The first form taught is a Tai Chi one and so builds on what was learnt when training with the Sabre, the second is a two man form which will necessarily improve the timing and precision that this weapon needs.
There is now also the option to learn a Mantis style straight sword form which Ben Mercer learnt from Grand Master Lee Kam Wing of Seven Star Mantis in 2010.
